You know it’s Fall when you see the huge displays of locally picked apples at your favorite grocery stores.
When my kids were young we used to go as a family apple picking. The last few years Charles and my 23 year old son Mark have made a new tradition. They go ‘apple picking’ and I use that term loosely! They drive to Quinn’s Farm (in Ile Perrot), buy lots of apples, and the baked goodies that the farm sells and then they stop to eat lunch at Smoked Meat Pete. It works for them and I get fresh apples!
They haven’t gone yet so I bought a huge crate of apples the other day at the grocery store. There’s always that question of what to do with so many apples!
My Top 5 Things I Do With Apples:
- 1. Eat them as is
- 2. Dice them into salads like in my Waldorf Wheat Berry Salad
- 3. Make baked apples
- 4. Use them in home baked goodies
- 5. Make Oatmeal Apple Breakfast Bake
I forget how good and crunchy fresh apples are!
What do you do with all the apples you’ll get this Fall?
