I love trying new grains but I did have trouble finding freekeh because it’s not always sold by this name! I found it in the grocery store under the name fereek and it was in the aisle that contains packaged clear bags of rice, dried beans, dried lentils, bulgur etc. If not, I’m sure that you can buy it at your local health food store.
And how does this healthy grain differ from other healthy grains? Freekeh is an ancient green wheat that has been toasted and cracked. There are so many essential nutritional benefits too. It happens to be a great source of protein, very high in iron and has an incredible high fiber content. And tell me, who doesn’t need to add more fiber to their diet??
You can have all the ‘healthy’ qualities in a food, but to me, the taste is #1. This cracked wheat has it all – great benefits AND it has a great chewy and nutty taste:)
