I know that many of us are creatures of habit and can eat the same thing over and over. Myself included! I like changing up the foods that I eat so I don’t get bored. I find that this helps me be more mindful in my food choices. But, I wasn’t always so adventurous in changing things up. Years ago I used to have the same breakfast and lunches every single day. Even though I enjoyed the foods that I ate, I found that shortly after I ate, I had a habit of opening and closing the fridge, freezer and cupboard doors just looking for ‘something’. Have you ever done that too? My meal was finished, so what was I missing? Variety!

Small changes lead to big results! A few years ago I found this gadget. This little utensil turns everyday veggies into something new. Instead of just dicing and slicing your carrots, if you use this julienne peeler, you’ll get beautiful strands!!

Geez – I sound like an infomercial, but imagine curly q’s of carrots, radishes, celery, zucchini – the possibilities are endless!. It looks a lot prettier and changes up the texture in your salads and sandwiches than just plain old sliced veggies. It’s something a little different to try and if that motivates you to eat better, then why not!

By the way, the pictured julienne peeler is made by OXO Good Grips and could be purchased at most kitchen/ department stores for around $10. Since I’ve used it a lot to ‘dress up’ my dishes (yay me!), I decided to upgrade and buy a spiralizer in order to make ‘spaghetti’ strands from zucchini and other veggies on a larger scale. Be on the lookout for my recipe that uses zucchini noodles next Monday!!
